Louis Guarino is the director of Capacity Management and the Nursing Staffing Office at HackensackUMC. In our 775-bed hospital, his primary role is to improve patient flow and decrease patient length of stay. Before joining HackensackUMC, he was vice president of nursing at Lutheran Medical Center where he directed the Department of Emergency Services, Critical Care, Women’s and Children’s Services and Respiratory Therapy. Prior to working at Lutheran Medical Center, Mr. Guarino was employed at HackensackUMC as an administrative director of nursing covering multiple areas including Critical Care, Women’s and Children’s Services and Pediatric Specialty Services.
Mr. Guarino has been a registered nurse for 26 years. Prior to his numerous roles in leadership, he worked in adult and pediatric critical care with a specialty in burn wound management. He currently holds a master’s degree in Nursing as well as a master’s degree in Business Administration. He holds two national certifications: Nurse Executive - Board Certification (NE-BC) and Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN). Mr. Guarino is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and the American Association of Critical Care Nursing (AACN). He is a certified organ donor requestor and is a past fellow for the Greater New York Hospital Association’s (GNYHA) Clinical Quality Fellowship Program.
