Kelly Briggs is the administrative director of Patient Care for Critical Care and Cardiovascular Services. Her areas of responsibility include all nursing activities for the Coronary Care Unit, Medical Intensive Care Unit, Surgical Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac Stepdown Units, Trauma/ Neurology Stepdown Unit, Respiratory Stepdown Unit, Vascular/Vascular Intermediate Unit, Dialysis Unit, Bariatric Unit and Urology Unit. Ms. Briggs leads a nurse manager and Advanced Practice Nurse team that ensures high-quality care and services are provided to the patients they serve.
A registered nurse with nearly 20 years of experience, Ms. Briggs has held numerous leadership positions, including director of Patient Experience and Service Excellence and nurse manager of various patient care units. Within her first year as director of Patient Experience and Service Excellence, the most significant improvement in HCAHPS score was achieved in 2013 compared with the two previous years. As a nurse manager she developed the first video monitoring program which led to a 50 percent reduction of falls in an Acute Care Elder Unit.
Ms. Briggs was invited to present successful patient experience initiatives as part of a panel discussion at the 2014 Cleveland Clinic Empathy Conference. Her strong desire to improve the patient experience makes Ms. Briggs a sought after speaker. She is highly-engaging and shares stories that connect passion to purpose while leaving the audience with practical strategies and tools that will improve the experience of patients in every type of healthcare setting. Ms. Briggs has been invited to speak nationally on several quality improvement initiatives including American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE), National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI), New Jersey State Nurses Association (NJSNA), and New Jersey Commission of Magnet Organizations (NJCOMO). In addition to her speaking engagements, she has contributed to several publications including the Journal of Geriatrics.
Ms. Briggs earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Manhattan College, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University and Master of Business Administration degree from Seton Hall University. She is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in gerontological nursing and nursing administration. She was recognized as a female leader in her organization with the Tribute to Women in INdustry (TWIN) Award. Ms. Briggs was most honored to complete the AONE Nurse Manager Fellowship Program in 2011 and she remains an active member of the AONE.
