Dianne Aroh, a nationally recognized health care leader, is the Executive Vice President, Chief Clinical and Patient Care Officer of Hackensack University Medical Center, the largest hospital within the Hackensack Meridian Health Network.
Formerly Vice President of Clinical Services and Chief Nurse Executive for the Montefiore Health Care System in New York, Mrs. Aroh joined the HackensackUMC team in 2006, and immediately began the business of forecasting, developing and implementing the strategic way forward for the medical center and network in the face of health care reform. She has strategically forged numerous partnerships and alliances to strengthen the clinical bases required to support the demands of medical center’s health care vision. These partnerships include her leadership participation in the Hackensack Meridian Health full spectrum of care geographic expansion agenda. In this role, Mrs. Aroh partners with Joseph M. Lemaire, President, Health Ventures, Hackensack Meridian Health Network and other team members to advance, and build out the health system’s continuum of care, to occupy our more northern counties. Additionally, Mrs. Aroh also partners with other network hospital leaders to advance the clinical, nursing and operational integration agendas, pre and post-merger. Mrs. Aroh also leads all Hackensack UMC’s community EMS services and successfully implemented Hackensack UMC’s first air med program.
Mrs. Aroh maintains direct accountability for more than one third of the organization’s employees, and $236 million of its $1.4 billion budget. Her portfolio spans organizational areas of business that include, but are not limited to: Surgical & Anesthesiology Services, all nursing services wherever nursing is practiced, Respiratory Therapy Services, Pharmacy Services, Diabetes, Inpatient Dialysis, the Emergency Trauma Center, Mobile Satellite Emergency Department, Air Med, Emergency Community Operations, Donna A. Sanzari Women’s Hospital, Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital, Psychiatry, Audiology, Outpatient Behavioral Health Services, Inpatient Oncology, Capacity & Case Management, Utilization Review & Discharge Planning Services, Social Services, Clinical Education, Service Excellence & Patient Experience, Institute for Evidence-Based Practice and Nursing Research, Pastoral Care Services, Logistics and Process Assurance, Value-based & Lean Transformational Project Management Services, Organizational Excellence Programs- Magnet and Baldrige, and Clinical Network Development & Integration.
Mrs. Aroh also recently created a value-based, lean transformational hub with the primary purpose of identifying and ratifying waste and process inefficiencies in operations and care delivery. The team, all lean six sigma trained, includes a quality trained appraiser, project managers, a value-based advanced practice nurse (APN) and an epidemiologist. The team – which has been deployed around the following strategic priority areas: length of stay, readmissions, and satisfaction – is in place to consistently evaluate and remove waste.
Mrs. Aroh is a transformational, situational leader with strengths in innovation, strategic planning, operations and finance. She thrives on challenges that demonstrate ingenuity and result in value-added returns on investment. Of notable mention is the significant achievement of the Hackensack-Alliance ACO team, of which Mrs. Aroh was an active member. The team generated $10.75 million in savings, of which the medical center will retain $5.27 million as Earned Shared Savings. Additionally, in the absence of a COO, Mrs. Aroh devised strategies, provided oversight and led efforts to successfully reduce LOS achieving threshold target for the first time; and adjusted CMI from budgeted 3.50 to actual 3.18 within the same year.
